In ancient Egyptian mythology, the earth god Aker is often represented by twin lions, named Yesterday and Tomorrow. They sit facing away from each other as they guard the eastern and western horizons where the sun enters and exits the world.

Egyptian lions are some of my favorite cultural depictions of the big cats. They have a calm and protective quality that matches the ancient culture that carved them as benevelent guardians protecting tombs and temples.

Part of my Ancient Tableau Collection, this large painting is a stunning feature work for any room, harkining back to ancient times when our human connections to wildlife and the earth were powerful and imutable.

This collection spanned almost 40 paintings, most of which have found forever homes all over the world.

This painting is beautifully framed with an antique gold frame.  It was created with oil paint applied in thin layers to build up the surface detail on stretched cotton canvas. The crumbling texture of stone, the lion's fur and mane are painted with fine brushstrokes, making it feel like you can reach out and touch the real thing.

PAINTING SIZE: 36 x 48 inches.  (dimension does not include the frame)
