The holidays have snuck up on me this year… my sense of time has been oddly skewed, making me wonder where the days are disappearing to! Time flies when busy, and I have been very busy…multiple trips to the foundry to collect the sculpture orders as they are completed and so much happening on the fantasy books side of the studio as well…

Shipping deadlines are well past now but I do have some small ready to ship sculpture, prints and other good things in the Holiday Shop. I also have some “Gift to Come” printable PDFs to present ahead of the items.

The first of the Bushveld sculptures have been completed! It is so lovely to see these pieces cast into bronze. I will be photographing, polishing and felting the bottoms over the weekend and getting the very first ones out to collectors next week.

I have cast an extra one or two of the smaller ones for my ready to ship bronze selection which will be featured in my annual Holiday Shop. I hope to get it open over the weekend!

Tundra Dweller: Musk Ox Bull, edition of 15. This beautiful guy is the first casting of this new edition, which features the single largest bull from my large Musk Oxen sculpture entitled ‘The Circle’.

This piece, the the only one cast so far, is now at @adelecampbellfineart in Whistler for their annual group exhibition- The Art of Winter opening later this month.

Gentle Giant - a big beautiful heavily-feathered #bronze #clydesdale

It is so lovely to enjoy this beautiful big #fellow in the studio for a few days to photograph him and felt his hooves before he heads to @hambletongalleries

This piece has not been cast for quite a few years. He was originally commissioned by a lovely collector and I did a very small edition of 7 for the sculpture.

Not much longer now…. I have been immersed in long, quiet hours in the studio—building armatures, adding clay and the nuances of motion to bring the spirit of these beauties through into this body of work. Now, in this final stretch, it is about creating the surface texture and final details of this lovely collection of African Wildlife Sculptures. Pre-casting release will be August 10th!

The practice of sculpting—well of any creating really—but especially sculpting, is a meditation. Losing my sense of time and place while sinking completely into the process is so satisfying. It is a velvety, beautiful space that fills me with energy and well being. I just received this beautiful email from a commission client who invited me to share it. It means so much to me to hear from collectors who have been moved in such positive ways by the work.

“Hello Kindrie,
I want to express my gratitude for the outstanding job you did in transforming my horse, Key West, from photos and sketches to a beautiful bronze. When I look at it, the bronze is unmistakably Wes. His face, his expression, and that little hint of a star on his forehead — you really captured him exactly.

I really appreciate the time that you took with me to review Wes as a sketch, and then in clay, and then again once he was ready to go to the foundry. It was a wonderful project, and the process really helped me in dealing with losing Wes.

Wes was dedicated on February 1, 2025, as a perpetual memorial trophy for the New Jersey Horse Shows Association. Once a year, Wes will come out to be presented to the High Point Open Hunter. The rest of the year, he will grace my mantlepiece, in memory of a very special horse.

Works in progress…. These two lionesses are part of my new Bushveld Collection which will encompass sculpture drawings and maybe a few paintings of African Wildlife.

The sculpture sets will be unique in that they will be available separately or can be assembled into a larger montage of two or three separate pieces that can be slid together and potentially rearranged when desired.

Pegasus: Becoming Free is a deeply personal piece for me, symbolic of finding your inner truth, connecting with it and being set free from inner and perceived outer constraints. One side of Pegasus is barded in armour, without a wing, held tightly by bridle and tack, the other side has been released to soar freely. The sword and shield represent the courage to move toward that freedom.

It is so gratifying when collectors also connect with my favourite works enough to want to enjoy them in their own spaces.

It was a delight to see him cast again and do a new photo shoot of this sculpture and a delight to send him on his way to a new home.

Pegasus Becoming Free is a profound personal piece for me.

Voyager: Humpback Whale
Edition of 20

The process of patination on bronze sculpture is not paint that is applied, but a reaction where certain chemicals are brushed or sprayed on while the bronze is hot to alter the surface molecules of the bronze.

The water you see being poured on allows us to see how dark the colour will be once the final protective wax is put on the sculpture. Some patinas, like Cubric (green) can darken significantly, making the outcome somewhat difficult to control. This sequence shows the raw bronze through to the final polished sculpture.

Always, though, it is an absolute delight to see sculptures under-go the patina process!

The kitties are here!! I spent the afternoon with the patina artist at the foundry today to do the first patinas on the Mini Cats.

It is always so fun to work out new patinas on sculptures and simply seeing the first castings of pieces is always so exciting.

I have chosen a Cinnamon Points Patina for two of the sets. One set is spoken for and will soon be on its way to a forever home, but the other one will be available in The Holiday Shop very soon!

Easily one of my favourite sculptures, this Black-capped Chickadee bronze entitled ‘Tweetypie’ ticks all the boxes for me.

Had the opportunity to take more photographs of my Northern Pygmy Owl sculpture. This guy is life sized and like all Pygmy Owls has a fierce stare which was so much fun to sculpt.

This piece headed out to a lovely new garden home in Maine.

The Mini Cats are being poured into wax this week! The bronze casting process is progressing and these little guys are getting closer to their final form.

I am soooo excited to see these sweeties in bronze! There will be a few sets available through this year’s Holiday Shop on my website. You can also order them now as well. (Link in bio)

I am so in love… Just picked these mini prints up from my printer. First time testing the prints on canvas and oh my goodness, they look so stunning!

The original paintings, all sold now, were the same size as these prints, 6 x 6 inches and full of life. The impressionist style and loose brushwork is comes through gorgeously on the canvas!

Stay tuned for my holiday shop this year… I will be featuring these little beauties in beautiful sets!

One of my favorite parts of fulfilling sculpture orders is creating each piece’s certificate of authenticity. These are a beautiful addition to a purchase experience, making the unpacking of a sculpture into an event.

Each certificate describes the making of the bronze sculpture with additional information on the history of the time-honored lost wax method.
It all goes in a beautiful custom folio for collectors to open with delight.

Casting a bronze piece for collectors is not a quick process. It takes about two months as each part of the process is done by hand. The wait to receive a one is so worth it though , as each has huge presence, and timeless quality.

FYI the certificates in their custom folio are available to ship in advance of the sculpture if need be for special gift dates that casting timelines can’t meet.

Studio moments…..

Between writing and creating the artwork for my fantasy novel series, sculpting and bronze casting, painting and drawing, there is always something going on in the studio.

I remember being told that one should focus on one medium and develop it fully, and that is certainly one way to work as an artist, but my experience has always been that when space opens up for a new way of working or a new material, you just know it. Working in a multi-disciplinary way allows for an incredibly rich and rewarding cross-pollination. And the artist’s hand, style and sensibility usually comes through no matter what the medium.

Creative work needs to include play and experimentation, otherwise inspiration can grow stagnant and dull.

Let’s play a little!
